Ragnarok Online and Golden Times

Hello dear readers of blogs hosted on the network powered Hive Blockchain, today I will be sharing my knowledge of the game Ragnarok in mid-2010, or as some people prefer to call the Gold Times, a time when MMORPGS were not of cosmetic equipment coolness and PaytoWin to date, where Ragnarok classes didn't have too much abusive stealing like we currently have like skills of a crazy mechanic who can ride on a big robot and shoot a cannon that can eliminate MVPs with a single shot, maybe I am being exaggerated? No. Just research and you will see how absurd this game has become, but I am here to advance the other way.

What is Ragnarok Online?

Ragnarok Online is initially based on the manga Ragnarök, which mixes the environment and view of the player in 3D with great characters drawn in 2D, that is so far in modern times with amazing art and high quality rendering in current games Ragnarok has one of the best styles proposed in the decade, mixing the simple with well done in agreement, officially released by Gravity Corp. current owner of the rights of the game, published on August 31, 2002 in the South Korean country and then later in 2003 on being distributed in other countries being France as the end of the cycle in 2006.

The gameplay is classic of the games of that time, mouse movement by pressing the left button along with the functions of actions such as attacking, collecting items on the ground, open dialogs and stores, interact with the world of Ragnarok and sub menus, while the keyboard served only to type in text boxes and use spells in the classic alternative shortcuts (F1, F2, F3 and continues ... ), the character customization in the beginning was incredible at the same time strange for the first travel of the player, we only distributed some points earned base, then a name for our character and the choice of hair and its color, only later after a training as a tutorial we could choose our class of work that we would follow with it until the end of the character, The cities were crowded with merchants and traders, especially Prontera where it seemed the initial city to learn everything about the game and equipment stores to start our adventure since what we won at first was only an apprentice knife and a brown shirt.

My first class and in-game development

As I was recommended by friends to download this game they practically led me to play Priest, initially Novice, since I would be their support and after a while I realized why they didn't have many players in their team with that class, in the beginning it was fun they helping me to get faster levels with the famous Leech that consists of creating a group with players bridges to scale their level from lower to higher, doing this the level of XP acquired can be distributed equally to the group while the strongest player kills monsters of higher level, usually was done in leagues that the weaker team could be intangible or safe for emergencies or healing replacement, positive effects or something like that so the player could be absent if necessary without the fear of dying, places like this were famous for being crowded and even a source of income for those who paid to have that benefit, Anubis, Jellyfish and Giant Orcs were the targets of all for the amount of XP obtained per hour and the ease of killing them.

After this leveling up with my friends I had already advanced to Priest, they gave me some amount of zenys (in-game currency) and some strong equipment so I could do something while they couldn't help me, as I was practically being created to be a support for my team I had no attack skills and no exorcism skills which I saw many Priests of my level using, I had a skill that could kill Anubis or any living dead with only one chance based on their DEX and LUK attributes, I needed to kill them using the healing skill and running around the map, low stamina so any monster combo would make me lay on the ground waiting for someone's good will to resurrect me, and as the map was well made for Priest classes and above I was always resurrected and healed at the same moment. Passed something around 3 or 4 months was already experienced in the game, already participated in guild wars for the castle and quests for valuable items in the world of Ragnarok, had already reached the then allowed limit of class 99, but was getting kind of tedious to play only support while watching my companions test the mechanics of their characters, until one day I admired a player and I was watching him playing with the same and put this decision in my head: I want to play as a Biochemist / Creator!

Acid Bomb and Pokemon-like Homunculus

The beginning was a little sad with the new class, the time I was spending evolving it was while my friends were busy even playing the game, and the time that was left was only for castle wars, and for those who played merchant in Ragnarok know how sad it is to have almost no attack skill except the only one that really causes considerable damage if it were not for the simple fact that it charges an amount of money every time it is used, that is you could spend more than 10k per minute without even getting 1 level on that map, so we had the option to go for the basic attack or for those rich and financially well off buy an elemental sword that allowed us to use magical abilities like Flame Lance something so far unique to Mages.

After this painful training we could then choose between being a Blacksmith or an Alchemist, well as I wanted to be a Biochemist I went for the second path, my friend helped me to complete the quest that is almost mandatory for every Alchemist who starts the game, acquire a homunculus, homunculi are humanoid monsters that can help the Alchemist in battle acting as an attacker, defender or support depending on the race and style created over the hatching process, however it is somewhat random and you can spend a lot if you want a specific single one, I was happy just not to get the support monster, it was even capable of me deleting the character if it was completed that way, luckily my first one was born everyone's favorite: Vanilmirth which was a gelatin goo with magical abilities in addition to healing, I could leave my character standing for hours while my Pokemon monster eliminated everything around me, although I was hampered with the lack of collecting items, I could even leave a legendary monster card on the ground and someone would walk by and collect it, if it ever happened? We will never know my friends.

In the end I was able to upgrade my job enough to go from a simple Alchemist to a destructive Biochemist, while some just created this character to grow plants, create potions and acids for trade for profit, Some players like me abused the use of the skill Demonstrative Acid which consists of selecting a target and with the cost of a bottle of acid that could be made with glass bottle, acid and poisonous spores caused a great damage on the target, was widely used to eliminate monsters with large amounts of life as MVPs and even a nightmare for other players in PVP. Since those good moments I have been able to use all the classes until the episode Meeting the Unknown where I ended up leaving the game due to lack of time and loss of interest in the new classes, quite cliché in my opinion.

Final considerations and personal opinion

I even tried to play a little on my vacation but everything was so strange, I felt like playing those alternative servers of high XP gain with level limits higher than 1000, any class killed any monster, what was my problem with the Priest supports now made no sense to change a character that could heal itself, apply benefits to themselves and their allies and still eliminate large monsters because it was what the evolution of the Priest in the case now Bishop could do, for those who like something challenging and want to remember how Ragnarok Online was fun and not this disguised PayToWin I recommend any server that contains the tag Gold Times, I was recently invited by old friends to join their guild war in [Kafra Portal] (https://www.kafraportal.com/), I have already had a look over it and found it interesting and would like to leave it already recommended here for those who enjoyed reading or true old-school players.
